Stewart is the second commitment for West Virginia Saturday.

West Virginia picked up its second safety commitment in a matter of minutes Saturday when Katy (Tx.) athlete JoVanni Stewart informed WVSports.com that he had picked the Mountaineers during his weekend official visit.

Stewart, 5-foot-10, 191-pounds, had listed West Virginia as the top school on his list for much the process and had been firm that if things went well this weekend he could end his recruitment. The Rivals.com two-star prospect also held offers from Bowling Green, Air Force, UTEP, Air Force and UTSA, among other schools that were showing interest.

“I just committed,” he texted.

"Excited and very blessed to call Morgantown my new home," he later tweeted.

West Virginia initially offered Stewart in September and the Mountaineers had maintained their contact throughout the course of the recruiting process. Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson served as the lead recruiter for the safety prospect.

The Texas product is set to start his career at bandit safety and compares his style of play to former West Virginia product Karl Joseph.

Overall, Stewart becomes the 23rd commitment for West Virginia in the class of 2016 and the second Saturday as Coffeyville C.C. (Kan.) safety Toyous Avery selected the Mountaineers earlier in the day.

Those two pledges bring the total number of safety commitments in this class to four with Bridgeport (W.Va.) athlete Dylan Tonkery already enrolled in school and Scranton (Pa.) Lackawanna C.C. safety Kyzir White set to visit Morgantown this upcoming weekend.

WVSports.com will have more with Stewart including a full interview following his official visit.
